In the vibrant world of pop-punk, few bands have navigated the tumultuous waters of change quite like Hit the Lights. Formed in 2003 in Lima, Ohio, this band has been a beacon for fans who crave that raw energy and emotional authenticity that defines the genre. Their journey began with a lineup featuring vocalist Colin Ross and guitarist Omar Zehery, alongside Nick Thompson on guitar, bassist David Bermosk, and drummer Nate Van Dame—who once roadied for emo legends Hawthorne Heights.

Their debut album “This Is a Stick Up… Don’t Make It a Murder” dropped in 2006 under Triple Crown Records. This was more than just an introduction; it was an explosion of sound filled with catchy hooks and relatable lyrics. However, shortly after its release, lead singer Colin left the group—a pivotal moment that could have derailed many bands but instead marked a new chapter for Hit the Lights.

Nick Thompson stepped into the vocal spotlight seamlessly. While some fans mourned Colin’s departure—his voice had undeniable power—Thompson brought his own unique flair to their music. The band’s sophomore effort “Skip School, Start Fights” released in 2008 continued to build on their established sound while showcasing Thompson’s clear vocals across tracks like “Count It!” and “Stay Out.” Each song resonated with themes of youthful rebellion and heartache—a signature trait that kept listeners coming back.

Fast forward to today: Hit the Lights is still going strong! They recently announced their latest EP titled “Tomorrow’s Gonna Hurt,” which features standout single “Desperate // Grateful.” This release serves as both homage to their roots and evidence of growth as artists willing to evolve without losing what makes them special.

The excitement doesn’t stop there; they’re hitting stages again! With shows lined up including one at Grand Rapids’ Pyramid Scheme this December alongside Gold Steps and Lake Mosaic, it’s clear they are ready to reclaim their spot among pop-punk veterans.

MAJOR LEAGUE:

Major League is a New Jersey-based pop-punk/emo band formed in 2009 by Brian Joyce (guitar/vocals) and original vocalist Nick Trask. Known for a DIY ethos and heartfelt, melodic sound, they gained traction with EPs The Truth Is… (2010) and Variables (2011), later signing with No Sleep Records for their 2012 album Hard Feelings.
