“Songs In The Key Of Freedom” is the beginning of a new chapter for musician Brian Ernst.

His eighth independent release is the most vulnerable record of his 17 year career. It’s a record written in response to the years he spent touring, living and working in Eastern & Southern Africa. It’s an album written about spending a months working at the Moria Refugee Camp in Lesvos, Greece and working with Syrian families fleeing war in Izmir, Türkiye.  It’s an album about holding the line at Standing Rock, becoming a father, touring around the world, and the peaks and valleys along the way. The record was produced in South Africa, by Ben Badenhorst.

Ernst filmed a music video for each one of the twelve songs on the album and then edited them together into one 57 minute visual album entitled, “A Film In The Key Of Freedom.” It’s a rockumentary  written, filmed, edited, directed and performed entirely by him.

Ernst built his career as a versatile, live looping multi-instrumentalist with a memorable and thought provoking live performance. His music has helped carry he and his family across 50 states and 37 countries, utilizing a grassroots approach that’s helped him sell over 20,000 albums and collect over 1.5 million views on all his videos.

Ernst grew up in a small town in Ohio. He is a proud Citizen of The Lenape Nation, Turtle Clan. In English they’re called the Delaware Tribe of Indians; which is a Sovereign Indigenous Nation that governs in what is commonly known as the United States. Ernst is a proud Lenape who is very passionate about Native American Studies and Federal Indian Law Reform.

Ernst and his wife Katie run an 501c3 non profit organization called Journey4YOUth. Since 2010, they have been ally’s to the Luo Tribe of Rusinga Island, Kenya. Through local leadership and council, Journey4YOUth and it’s supporters have raised over $200,000 for education scholarships and clean water initiatives.

Brian has shared the stage with The Wailers, SOJA, Trevor Hall, MC YOGI, Shakey Graves, Nahko, Tubby Love, Better Than Ezra, Goodluck, and many others. He’s performed at concerts and festivals in South Africa, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Australia and SE Asia and he continues to bring people together with passionate music and storytelling.
